Our team looked at four food trends and how viewers reacted to them – here's how we think brands can use these insights to create new opportunities.

Food content that stands out on TikTok gives people more than something to watch. It gives them a question to answer, a tip to share or a recipe to adapt. This matters for brands because food is one of the most crowded categories on the platform. A good looking video may earn a view, but participation gives it a longer life.

This month, we looked at four emerging trends on #FoodTok and found a recurring pattern. The creator starts the video but the audience takes the idea further in the comments through answering questions, exchanging tops and building on each other’s ideas. For marketers, the comment section is where you get a real look at what your consumers are thinking, wanting, and lacking, which in turn shows you where your brand can show up for them.

Herbal drinks become a comment-section clinic

Creators show viewers how to make herbal drinks at home, adding each ingredient into one pot on camera. As they watch, viewers turn the comment section into a “clinic”, where they ask what each ingredient does, the benefit it may have, and if it can be substituted with another.

The creator becomes a trusted guide, while the comments become an informal space for the community to learn from one another.

BRAND OPPORTUNITY

What stands out for us is the curiosity shown by the community, which reveals a strong demand for herbal wellness content. More importantly, it also reveals a new group with different needs that brands can now reach out to.

For example, if you’re a packaged food or beverage brand, using your brand account to answer ingredient/benefit-related questions can position you as a subject-matter expert, and provide a natural way for you to join the community and earn consideration from health-conscious consumers.

Ingredient prep replaces meal prep

Forget meal prep, ingredient prep is now the solution for tackling time scarcity. Instead of cooking full meals in advance, creators prepare and freeze pre-portioned raw ingredients like aromatics, marinated protein, and cut vegetables. These portions can then be mixed and matched throughout the week, making fresh home cooking easier on busy days.

The format encourages viewers to contribute. Creators explain their methods, while viewers share tips on storage, portioning, and even thawing. Each comment adds a practical improvement, helping the trend grow through shared knowledge.

BRAND OPPORTUNITY

This trend shows that consumers want flexible ingredients, not just finished meals. They are looking to save time on busy weeknights without giving up variety or fresh cooking. The opportunity for F&B brands respond with modular ingredient kits or products that act as convenient building blocks for quick, home-cooked meals.

Convenience store hauls sell what viewers cannot buy

Creators film themselves exploring convenience stores, showing the products available, before reviewing and ranking their finds. The twist is that many of these items are only available in a specific country, so most viewers cannot easily try them. So they use the comments to ask where to find the products, what similar items to try and which flavours are worth seeking out.

The engagement comes from the gap between wanting something and being unable to buy it. The videos create curiosity around both the products and the destinations they come from.

BRAND OPPORTUNITY

F&B brands can close this gap by recreating popular overseas convenience store experiences with products consumers can find locally. For example, creating local versions of the Japanese egg sando, the Korean pouch-and-ice cup drinks, viral spicy ramen combos. By making the experience accessible, brands can turn an overseas craving into something the consumers can try immediately.

Coffee is the base for at-home creativity

As dining out becomes more expensive, more people are turning into home baristas and creating trending coffee drinks at home with ingredients they already have. Using simple kitchen items such as butter or olive oil for creaminess, or substituting a lighter for a blowtorch, they show how to create café-style flavours and textures on a budget. Since coffee is a kitchen staple in most homes, almost anyone can participate.

That low barrier makes the trend easy to adopt and adapt. Viewers copy a recipe, swap in their ingredients, and share the results. Each new version gives the next person another idea to try, allowing the trend to grow and evolve quickly.

BRAND OPPORTUNITY

Consumers are not looking for one fixed recipe. They want simple products that help them experiment with flavours at home, without needing expensive equipment or hard-to-find ingredients. F&B brands can make recipe exploration more accessible by offering versatile products that acts as a base, shortcut, or substitute, then showing how they can adapted across different drinks. The opportunity is to give consumers the tools to create, customise, and share their own recipes.
